Soddy Daisy Distinguished Young Women Program Is Saturday

The 60th Annual 2019 Soddy Daisy Distinguished Young Women Program will be held Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Soddy Elementary School, 260 School St. The theme will be Great Gatsby. 

Tickets are $10 with program booklets for $3 available at the door.  Tickets will be on sale 5:30 p.m. at the door. 

The current Soddy Daisy Distinguished Young Woman 2018 is Macey Daniel, a senior at Soddy Daisy High School. 

There are 11 intelligent and talented young ladies participating in Soddy Daisy's Distinguished Young Women program this year.  This is a scholarship program for junior girls.  The judging system is designed to evaluate the qualities and characteristics the program promotes.  Interview is 25 percent, talent is 20 percent, scholastic is 25 percent, fitness is 15 percent and self expression is 15 percent. 

The Be Your Best Self Program is the official platform of the Distinguished Young Woman program.  BYBS stresses the importance of living a healthy and successful life, and promotes literacy, physical fitness and community service.  The five elements of BYBS are:  "Be Healthy, Be Involved, Be Studious, Be Ambitious and Be Responsible". 

The winner will participate in the Tennessee Distinguished Young Women Program in Cleveland at Lee College in July.  America's Distinguished Young Women Program will be in Mobile, Al. at the Mobile Civic Center Theatre June 28, 29 and 30. 

The program was formerly known as Soddy Daisy Junior Miss Program and was founded in 1959.  America's Junior Miss was founded in 1958 which is the oldest and largest scholarship program for high school senior girls.  There is a large group of men and women who help each year to put on this program.
