Covenant Women Defeat Agnes Scott, 3-0

  • Saturday, September 22, 2018
Backed by three second half goals, the Covenant women's soccer team opened USA South play with a 3-0 win at Agnes Scott on Saturday afternoon.

The win snaps a brief, two-match losing skid for Covenant (2-4-1, 1-0-0 USA South) and marks the fifth time in six seasons that the Lady Scots have won their conference opener.
The three goals were also a season-best for the Lady Scots.

After a scoreless first half, Covenant dominated the final 45 minutes. Addy Cronan scored the eventual game-winner for the Lady Scots in the 49th minute. The unassisted score was Cronan's third of the year and gave the Lady Scots a lead they would not relinquish.

Covenant made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute when Kyra Duble found the back of the net. Duble's first goal of the year was assisted by Hannah Rodehaver as Rodehaver crossed the ball into the box where Duble cleaned it up for the score. The Lady Scots tacked on one more insurance tally in the 80th minute when Kailey Burrell notched her second goal of the year to make it a 3-0 score.

Covenant outshot Agnes Scott 25-13 for the match, including 16-8 in the second half. The Lady Scots put 12 of those shots on target and forced Agnes Scott keeper Alyssa Bayus to make nine saves.

Rachel Lemay made three saves for Covenant as she registered her second shutout of the season.

Five players took three shots apiece for Covenant as Duble, Cronan, Burrell, Lizzy Hightower, and Molly Kate McClearn all had multiple looks on the afternoon. Agnes Scott's Caitlynn Croft led all players with five shots in the contest.

Covenant will host Piedmont on Wednesday in a key USA South match. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
