The Bandy Heritage Center will exhibit historic photographs from the first 30 years of the Creative Arts Guild’s history as part of the Guild’s Festival 2018 celebration.

In 2013, the Bandy Center accepted stewardship of scrapbooks, newsletters and other memorabilia chronicling the Guild’s first 50 years as Georgia’s oldest multidisciplinary community arts organization. Organizing the Guild’s materials yielded 57 archival boxes of material spanning three generations of visual arts, dance, music and cultural programming. This exhibit features a small portion of more than 10,000 photographs included in the collection.

“We’re honored to steward these historic materials, to preserve them for future generations, and to share them with the public,” said Dr. Adam Ware, Bandy Center director. “The Creative Arts Guild is a unique and important cultural institution, and a look into its past is an illuminating way to encounter our community’s history. These photos are sure to bring back memories for the thousands of citizens whose lives have been enriched by the Guild’s work.”

The exhibit will open to the public this Friday at 10 a.m. in the Jonas Performance Hall at the Creative Arts Guild, 520 W. Waugh St.  The exhibit will remain on display through Oct. 19. It can be viewed Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon. It will be open to attendees of the Guild’s Taste of Dalton: Festival Preview Party on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., as well as through Festival weekend.
