For a second straight week, Covenant women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Lucy Sandhoff (Lookout Mountain, Ga./Chattanooga Christian) garnered a USA South weekly award as she was named Rookie of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 13, announced the conference on Monday.
It is the third weekly award Sandhoff has earned this season, and the second Rookie of the Week nod. She was also the USA South Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7.
A freshman from Lookout Mountain, Ga., Sandhoff had another outstanding week at the net for Covenant in a 2-0 week.
She played all 180 minutes at the net and stopped 13 of the 14 shots she faced. Sandhoff had three saves in a 4-1 win at Berea last Thursday and then capped the week with 10 saves in a 1-0 victory at Bob Jones on Saturday. The 10 saves was the second-highest save total of the year for Sandhoff.
Sandhoff's strong week moved her save percentage up to .802 on the year, which ranks seventh among USA South keepers, while ranking tied for fifth in wins (6). The freshman has registered five shutouts and started all 12 of the Lady Scots' matches this year.
Aided by Sandhoff's play at the net, Covenant is unbeaten over its last six matches and outscored opponents 13-2 during the stretch.
Covenant (6-4-2, 3-0-1 USA South) hosts Maryville for a key USA South West matchup on Wednesday. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
