Habitat’s Raise The Roof Luncheon Nets $100,000

Organizers Thank Community For Generosity

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga announced that the annual Raise the Roof luncheon raised $100,000 for the organization.  The event which was chaired by Gina and Alnoor Dhanani and headed by Mark Hite culminated with a sold-out event at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

Fundraising committee chair Mark Hite of Keller Williams Realty said, “Habitat for Humanity does so much within our community.  As a realtor I see affordable housing slipping out of reach for so many Chattanoogans.  Whether it’s a first home or forever home, having a home creates a foundation for families and for future success.  It’s been an honor to work with such a strong group of volunteers who share this vision.”

Habitat works with families whose total income is between 30-80 percent of the area median income.  Families are accepted to the Habitat program based on their need, ability to pay a zero percent interest mortgage, and their willingness to partner. Applicants must be residents of Hamilton County.

Once accepted, homeowners are eligible to buy a house from Habitat with a 30-year zero percent interest mortgage. Families spend a minimum of 200-400 hours working and building “sweat equity” where they support and help build their own home and the homes of their neighbors. Monthly payments average $400 - $450 (including taxes and insurance).

Habitat’s President and CEO Dave Butler noted the strong support the organization has within the community. “We’re grateful not only for the financial support given to Habitat but also for the volunteers who give their time to build our homes. Chattanooga has always been known as a giving community and ‘Raise the Roof’ underscores that fact.  We’re looking forward to putting the funds raised to continued efforts in our community.”
