The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team remains on the road this weekend with a pair of Southern Conference matches. UTC will be in Macon, Ga., Friday to take on Mercer and then travel to Charleston, S.C., for a meeting with The Citadel.
The Mocs are 7-3-3 on the year and 2-1-1 in league play. UTC has wins over Wofford and Western Carolina while battling ETSU to a scoreless draw. Chattanooga’s lone loss against the SoCon was a home overtime match against Furman.
Hollie Massey has a team-high five assists.
Combined with her two goals, she leads the Mocs in scoring with nine points. Faith Gober and Samantha Shaw have a team-high three goals apiece and Bailey Gale is second in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points. Osa Iyare has a team-leading two game winning goals. Five other have one game winner each.
Keepers Ashton Shields and Abbey Saddler continue to push the Mocs shutout pace toward a school record. Shields has four on the season, two in SoCon play, with a 0.84 GAA and Saddler has three. They have combined for a 0.66 goals-against average with Saddler’s dipping down to 0.46 after her third shutout over the weekend.
The Bears are 10-2 overall and 2-1 in league play with wins over VMI (2-0) and The Citadel (4-2) while falling 2-0 to UNCG on the road. Mercer is averaging 2.25 goals on 16.4 shots per game.
Nicole Icen has a SoCon leading 17 points and eight goals with one game winner. Abigail Zoeller has a team-best seven assists and is second on the team in scoring with 11 points while Amaya Evans is second on the team in goals scored with five for 10 points.
Jordyn Elbert has started 11 of the 12 matches, playing 1026:30 in the net. She has 63 saves, a .851 saves percentage and 11 goals against for a 0.96 goals against average.
Chattanooga leads the series with Mercer by a 4-3-2 margin. The last two matches have ended in ties. On the road UTC trails the Bears 1-2-1. In the last meeting on the road, the two teams battled to a scoreless draw in Macon.
The Bulldogs are 5-4-1 overall and 1-2 in league play. They are averaging 20.9 shots and 2.27 goals per game while allowing 20 goals on 152 shots. Logan Dix leads the team in scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Suzuka Yosue is second on the team in scoring with nine points on two goals and a team-best five assists followed by Devyn Nyhart’s eight points on two goals and four assists.
Maddie Somogyi has started all nine games in which she has played and leads the team with a 3-3-2 overall mark with three shutouts. The four keepers have combined for a 1.75 goals against average on 20 goals scored and have a .726 saves percentage, making 53 saves as a group.
UTC leads the series with The Citadel 11-5-1. The Mocs are on a four-match win streak against the Bulldogs and posted a 3-2 double overtime win in Charleston in 2017. Chloe Arnold recorded her first hat trick and drove home the game winner in the second overtime.
