James Alexander Hall went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2019. 

He was born April 3, 1928, in Chattanooga, to the late Claude and Mary Ellen Dootson Hall. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 54 year, Ina Hembree Hall.

Survivors include his wife Ann Ledford Hall, son Tom Hall (Machelle) and daughter Robbin Hall Faulk (Todd), Susan Hale Chastain, Joan Hale Bunn (David), and Dianne Hale Gonzales (Mike), granddaughters Anna Hall Barron (Kevin), Abby Hall, grandsons Alex Faulk, Andy Faulk,  great granddaughter Elli Barron, and his dearly loved brothers and their wives Gene Hall (Carol), Fred Hall (Joan), and Claude Hall (Mary Lou); and his nieces and nephews who he loved and treasured.

Jim retired in April 1993 from First Tennessee Bank as senior vice president and manager of the Commercial Banking Division. His banking career began in 1948 with Hamilton National Bank where he served in every area of the bank, including 12 years as branch manager. In 1974 he became senior vice president, and he continued in this position after First Tennessee acquired Hamilton Bank.

A 1946 graduate of Central High School and a member of the first graduating class (1948) of Tennessee Temple College. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Chattanooga. He was also a graduate of Georgia State University Executive Management School and Louisiana State University Graduate Banking School. From 1951-1953 Jim served as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army (Korean War).

He was active in community service including president of Downtown Sertoma Distinguished Honor Club, Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and Chamber of Commerce committees. While a member of Red Bank Baptist Church (34 Years), Jim was chairman of the Board of Deacons, Finance, Personnel and Long-Range Planning Committees. Jim and his wife, Ina, organized the Hall’s Sunday School class which grew to over 100 members. Inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for weightlifting and his boxing championships. He was a three-time “Mr. Chattanooga” champion as well as Tennessee, Southern and Southeastern champion, as well as, the 1947 Southern Golden Gloves champion. He served as a boxing referee and official for 20 years. Later, Jim was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church and Friendship Bible Study class.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. with Reverend Gene Hall and Kit Smith officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hall’s Sunday School Class and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Active pallbearers will be Alex Faulk, Andy Faulk, Kevin Barron, Aaron Corcoran, Don Lee, Dr. Steve Hall, and Gary Turner. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 822 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.

The family appreciates the wonderful care given to our father, husband, and brother by Elmcroft at Shallowford and for his special niece, Cindy Hall Lee, who came at a moments notice to stand with the family to give comfort both medically and spiritually helping deliver him into to the Lord’s arms.
