Sleep in Heavenly Peace will deliver its 600th bed Wednesday to a child that has been sleeping on the floor
The Chattanooga chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace has been making good on the promise that, “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town” since volunteers began delivering beds to children in need on Feb. 20 this year.
They will distribute the 600 bed on Wednesday to a child who has been sleeping on the floor. That’s an average of more that 15 beds delivered per week since the first bed was set up.
According to Delivery Coordinator Betsy Childress, there are currently 355 children waiting for beds in the area. Requests for 86 beds have been received in November alone. All beds come complete with brand new sheets, comforter, and pillow, and virtually all of which are donated. Each bed also comes with a new mattress. Bed number 600 is going to a little girl who has requested pink unicorns.
SHP Chattanooga serves children ages 3 to 17 living in the 37 zip codes within a 15-mile radius of the Shallowford Road Post Office. There are no financial requirements to receive the beds. If a child does not have a bed, one can be requested through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace national website atwww.shpbeds.org.
