Tennessee Valley Canoe Club Creates Interactive River Access Map

  • Tuesday, December 17, 2019

Tennessee Valley Canoe Club flatwater cruise master, Eric Fleming has been padding in this area for decades and collecting information on all the best places to put one's boat on the water and take out.

Working with fellow TVCC member, BG Smith, they created the first ever interactive map of Chattanooga area water trails The map provides a comprehensive view of access points for Chattanooga area water trails.

It includes points of interest where services like camping, restaurants, and outfitters (rentals, shuttles, tours) can be found. USGS river gauges are shown where available and can be used to check current conditions.   The map also includes some sightseeing opportunities.

The Chattanooga Area Water Trail map is posted on the TVCC official website at https://tvccpaddler.com/tennessee-river-valley-access-points/ with links for downloading a printable copy of the map listing all 270 access points.

With its constant emphasis on safety, the TVCC website includes guidance for paddlers to always be prepared for high or low water issues, wildlife, possible portages, blockages, current (strainers), and other challenges. TVCC urges paddlers to not attempt a trip without the appropriate skills, equipment, and supplies.

For more than 50 years, the Tennessee Valley Canoe Club has brought together paddlers for recreational canoeing, kayaking, camping and other outdoor activities; helping members learn about and experience safe paddling on the many creeks, rivers and lakes in the Southeast and beyond.  TVCC also supports conservation and preservation of recreational waterways as well as other community programs such as Ironman and other triathlons, Scouting, and Rescue Organizations.
For information about the club go to tvccpaddler.com.  To join the Southeast's most active paddling club, check out the TVCC website at https://tvccpaddler.com/join-tvcc/.
