Resort Hotel Could Go Atop Huge New Community On Aetna Mountain

  • Thursday, June 6, 2019

A resort hotel could be a part of a huge new community on Aetna Mountain.

Doug Stein, one of the developers, said, "We have reserved an area for such a property, but do not have a deal in place at this time."

Mr. Stein said the group continues construction on a new road up the mountain to replace a dirt one that dates to before the Civil War.

He said, "We are building the road up the mountain, however, and need to be ready to develop the top when we get there.

"There is approximately 1,200 acres of developable land on top, with six miles of brow. This is over 20 percent larger than the entire town of Lookout Mountain, Tn. All of it is within the Chattanooga city limits.

"We believe it will be one of the more critical elements of Chattanooga’s growth over the next 20 years. My partners and I personally view this development as a great responsibility."

Mr. Stein said earlier that large areas will be set aside as green space, steep slopes will be preserved, and structures will not be directly on the bluff.

The property is just above the Black Creek development (formerly Cummings Cove) in Lookout Valley.
