  • Thursday, July 11, 2019

Two local vintage base ball teams will battle it out Saturday against visiting clubs from Knoxville. The Knoxville Holstons and Emmett Machinist both travel down to the Tennessee River Park to try and best one of the Chattanooga clubs.

Chattanooga Lightfoot play the Holstons at 1:30 p.m. and Mountain City take on the Machinist at 3:30 p.m. All of the teams are part of the Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball.

All clubs in the TAoVBB observes the rules and customs of 1864. Base ball was a gentleman's game back then. There was “no spittin', no swearin' and no gloves.”  Additionally, players (ballists) wear period uniforms and use period appropriate equipment (i.e. wooden base ball bats known as willows). Learn more about vintage base ball and the rules the ballists follow at www.tennesseevintagebaseball.com.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets as there is no bleacher seating available and something to stay cool. No admission charge for the games.
