Christine Lopes
Christine Lopes, nurse practitioner at CHI Memorial’s Guerry Heart and Vascular Center, recently received the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
A coworker nominated Ms. Lopes for the way she cares for patients and always goes the extra mile. “Here are just some examples of how she cares for others… A patient was almost out of [oxygen] and had other appointments at another doctor’s office. The patient had no spare [oxygen] and was dependent.
She got the patient an [oxygen] tank with roller, and then called a home health company and got [oxygen] delivered to the office for patient’s ride home. Just the other day, I took a phone call about a patient who had a test done that required immediate action. He told me he wanted to know the nurse’s name, so he could personally write a thank you card to her. He said he knew something was very wrong, but Christina was very soothing and thorough. He said she made him not worry because he knew he was in good hands. Christina deserves to be recognized for her caring spirit. She truly encompasses the meaning of a caring spirit.”
Ms. Lopes has worked at CHI Memorial since July 2010.
CHI Memorial partners with the DAISY Foundation to recognize the extraordinary difference nurses make in the lives of patients and co-workers. Nurses are chosen each month to receive this wonderful award that honors compassionate care.
At a presentation attended by the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, leaders and visitors, the honoree receives a certificate commending which reads, "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." The honoree is also given a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa, a daisy bouquet, and a copy of her/his nomination letter. The honoree's nursing unit receives a cinnamon doughnut party because it takes a team for a nurse to achieve his/her best. Tasty Doughnuts generously donates the treats for this worthy cause.
