Dalton State's Cranney Named SSAC's Emil S. Liston Scholarship Award Winner

Dalton State (Ga.) men's basketball player Sean Cranney has been named the SSAC's Emil S. Liston Scholarship Award winner.

Dalton State Men's Basketball Coach Alex Ireland said, "On the court, Sean is a true point guard and an extension of his coaches. Despite battling consistent knee and back injuries last season, Sean was able to lead the SSAC in assists at 4.84 assists per game. Sean also serves his fellow students as a tutor for the Office of Student Life. After a long day of practice and classes, Sean tutors Dalton State students as well as special needs students in a wide variety of math courses."

Margaret Venable said, "He is humble yet seen as a leader both on and off the court. Sean is driven to success in basketball and in the classroom. His professors in the Wright School of Business speak very highly of him and have a deep respect for his internal motivation and his academic efforts, ability and success."

The Basics

- Each conference selects one winner, and the NAIA winner will be chosen from those honorees in September
- Nominees must have a GPA of 3.5 or better and have attained junior academic standing
- Has a 3.8 GPA
- Played in all 31 games in 2018-19, averaging 11.7 points and 4.84 assists, while shooting 36% from 3-point range and 84% from the charity stripe
