Lee University School Of Music To Present Faculty, Guest Artist Recital

Dr. Joong Han (Jonathan) Jung, Dr. Hyeri Choi, and Dr. DoYeon Kim will join forces to perform a diverse chamber music program at Squires Recital Hall on Lee University’s campus Monday at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will feature the works of Ludwig van Beethoven, César Franck, and Dmitri Shostakovich.

South Korean-New Zealand pianist Dr. Jung concertizes regularly across the United States, New Zealand, Australia, China, and Japan. He has performed with the Eastman Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Philharmonic Orchestra of New Zealand, University of Auckland Symphony Orchestra, and Auckland Youth Orchestra.

Dr. Jung, an assistant professor of piano at Lee, has been featured as a guest artist at the Texas State International Piano Festival and Brevard Summer Music Festival. He has also premiered and performed his own compositions at Carnegie Hall, University of Southern Mississippi, Tulane University, Hatch Recital Hall, and Brevard Music Center. Dr. Jung earned his Doctor of Musical Arts, Master of Arts in theory pedagogy, and Master of Music from Eastman School of Music.

Dr. Choi is an assistant professor of violin at Idaho State University and the appointed concertmaster at the Idaho-Civic Symphony. Dr. Choi, an orchestra, solo, and chamber musician, served as a guest concertmaster of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra and principal second violin of the Seoul Metropolitan Youth Orchestra in Korea. As the first prize winner of the 2014 American Protégé International String and Piano Competition, Dr. Choi performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. She also performed a solo recital in the Musicales Concert Series at the George Eastman House.

Dr. Choi has performed internationally at the Kirishima International Music Festival in Japan and the Music Alp Festival in France. She received her doctorate and master’s degree from Eastman School of Music and her bachelor’s degree from Ewha Woman’s University in Korea.

Distinguished for her “charisma and communicative power,” cellist Dr. Kim is an award-winning soloist and collaborative artist, performing across North America and her native country, South Korea. Dr. Kim received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati and recently joined the faculty at the Ocean County College. Dr. Kim made her New York debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie as the first prize winner of the 2016 American Protégé International Strings and Piano Competition.

Dr. Kim is the first prize winner of the Adrian Boyer Competition, The International Music Competition “2017 Rome Grand Prize Virtuoso,” the 34th Music Education Journal Competition, and the Grand Rapids Federation of Musicians Madura Scholarship Competition.

This event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Squires Recital Hall is in Lee’s Humanities Center on Parker Street.
