It’s Time To Stop Playing State Representative And Be One

  • Saturday, May 17, 2025

In Chattanooga, particularly in District 28, it is imperative that Black community leaders—pastors, teachers, doctors, lawyers, law enforcement officers, nurses—unite in a call for accountability. It is long past time for State Representative Yusuf Hakeem to host a public town hall meeting.

For too long, our district has been left without a consistent platform for open dialogue. We are tired of photo ops and performative politics. What we need is real engagement—opportunities for residents to voice concerns, ask tough questions, and receive honest answers.

District 28 faces a wide range of issues: economic stagnation, housing insecurity, public safety concerns, and a lack of investment in youth and infrastructure. These challenges cannot be addressed in silence or behind closed doors. They require collaboration, transparency, and leadership rooted in service—not self-preservation.

We’re calling on Yusuf Hakeem to step forward and meet the community face to face. No scripts. No filters. Just honest dialogue.

The people of District 28 deserve more than absentee leadership. It’s time to stop playing state representative and be one.
