Sheriff Austin Garrett formally recognized four Judicial Security Services deputies on Monday with commendations for their extraordinary actions in a life-threatening emergency.
Deputies Andrew Barrows, Paul Maroon, John Lovell and Bryan Sowers were recognized for their "swift and skilled response" after a court clerk suffered a severe leg injury resulting in significant blood loss while on duty.
"Without hesitation, the deputies worked together to apply pressure to the wound and fashioned a makeshift tourniquet placed just below the victim’s knee, successfully slowing the bleeding until an official tourniquet could be applied," officials said.
"The deputies continued to assist with care and stabilize the victim until advanced medical personnel arrived on scene.
"The decisive and coordinated actions of Deputies Barrows, Maroon, Lovell and Sowers reflect not only their exceptional training, but also their steadfast dedication to the safety and well-being of those they serve. Their calm, focused response in a critical moment undoubtedly prevented a potential tragedy or loss of life.
"Please join us in commending Deputies Andrew Barrows, Paul Maroon, John Lovell and Bryan Sowers for their exemplary service to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Hamilton County."
