Betty “Marie” Dotson Mitchell, 91, of Lupton City, Tennessee, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020, at home surrounded by family into the loving arms of Jesus. She fought a two-year battle with Angiosarcoma cancer.

 

She was born in Dayton, Tennessee, on June 27, 1929, to the late George and Cora Kennedy Dotson. She was employed with Robinson Manufacturing until marrying Gordon Mitchell, the love of her life, and moving to Lupton City in 1957. She started a daycare in her home and provided a safe and loving environment for children for over 40 years. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and was a faithful member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church until health issues prevented her from attending. She was a prayer warrior for her family until the Lord called her home. She will be dearly missed by all. 

 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Mitchell; four brothers, Orville, Jack, Carl and Amos Dotson; two sisters, Geneva Dotson and Adith Dotson Taylor.

 

Survivors include one sister, Thelma Dotson Taylor of Dayton, TN; two daughters, Brenda Mitchell (Jeff) Thompson and Tammy Mitchell (Hayden) Roberts III of Hixson; step daughter, Reba Mitchell Murphy of Spring City; a dear friend that she loved as a daughter, Priscilla “Pat” Locklear of Harrison; seven grandchildren, Jill Thompson (Dave) Jinnette, Mitch (Melissa) Thompson, Hayden (Kayla) Roberts, Kevin Roberts all of Hixson, Daniel (Josie) Thompson of Knoxville, Erica Murphy (Brian) Hitchcox of Ooltewah, Jim Murphy of Spring City; two dear ones that she that she loved as grandchildren, Chris (Tammy) Locklear and Wendy Locklear of Harrison; fifteen great-grandchildren, Tristan, Landon, Chloee, Brynlee, Sophia, Sadie, Gabriella, Ariya, Avery, Hadlee, Braden, Tyson, Emmy, Justin and Christopher; many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

 

A graveside side service will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Brother Roger DeHart officiating.

 

The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson prior to the graveside service.

 

Everyone is welcome to attend the graveside service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, and masks are required.
