Former UTC Football Player Held Long Career With Westrock's Mill Division

Kevin Johnson was born on January 28, 1972, in Washington D.C. He passed away on the night of Friday, December 11, 2020, in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

 

Kevin attended Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Ga. Graduating as a standout student athlete in 1990, he continued to the collegiate level, earning a football scholarship to The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He played football and attended UTC until 1994. There he met his wife, Leah Anne Fitzgerald. They married the following year and stayed in Chattanooga to raise their three children. He worked at Westrock’s Mill Division since 1999. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Leah, his children, Devyn, Patrick, and Mackenzie, his father, James E. Johnson Jr., his sister, Shawn Johnson, his in-laws, Jerry Fitzgerald and Judy McConnell (Jerry), his godparents, James and Sue Dingle, and he also shared a special closeness with the Dotson family (cousins, Jamey, Kristin, Reid, Ryan, and Emily).

 

 He was preceded in death by his mother, Gordine Johnson.

 

He will be remembered for his love of seeing his children play sports, his work ethic, and his undeniable likability to everyone who had the honor to meet him.

 

Visitation will be on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 12 p.m., with a chapel service following at 2:00 at Chattanooga Funeral Home North, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
