Major Mary F. Ashby, age 94, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Ralph Ashby; grandson, Derrick Ashby; and granddaughter, Nikki Darrah.

She was a member of the Salvation Army and a member of Salem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Darrah of Cohutta, Helen (Larry) Ingle of Dalton, adopted daughter Phyllis Pendley of Rome, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Leslie (Mary) Ashby of Shelby, N.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertrude Corey of Quebec, Canada, Thelma (Melvin) Hagar of Willimantic, Ct., Aileen (Eric) Purney of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Jason Shawn (Amy) Farmer, Heather (Anthony) Tate, Stephanie (John) Wolf, Kelley (Eddy) Davis, Brad (Amy) Estep, Kristina (Ryan) Hanson; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews with special niece, Judy Purney.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Amedisys Home Health Care and Hospice for the special care they gave to their mother.

The funeral service will be Sunday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m at Salem Baptist Church with Sgt. Les Ashby, Major Robert Hopper, Pastor Darry Kittle, and Pastor Jim Brinkley officiating.

The family will receive friends at Salem Baptist Church on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 1 p.m. until the service time at 3 p.m.

Burial will be in United Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army in Shelby, NC.
