Robert L. Clayton, Sr., 81, of Middle Valley, passed away in his home at 6:09 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020, with his loving wife and sister-in-law with him. 

Leslie was born in Hixson on Nov. 6, 1938, to the late George and Mable Clayton.

Leslie was an alumni of Hixson High School.  He honorably served in the Army National Guard and the United States Navy.  He was a Marine fireman stationed in San Diego, Ca., until 1962. 

Leslie was a home builder for 30 plus years and built hundreds of houses over the course of his career.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn N. Clayton; twin brother, Wesley Clayton and sister, Wilma Parthena (Clayton) Leffew.

Leslie leaves behind his wife, Karen Clayton; sons, Robert L. Clayton, Jr., Vance Clayton, Gerald Clayton and daughter, Jessica Ramirez-Clayton; step-sons, Jimmy Harvey and Bryan Harvey; grandchildren, Rachel Parker, Joel Clayton, Sara Clayton, Evan Clayton, Donovan Clayton, Ryder Harvey, Mason Harvey, Nova Harvey and Daisy Harvey; brother, Charles Everett Clayton.   

Leslie loved his family and enjoyed traveling.  He and Karen spent 27 wonderful years traveling and making memories to last a lifetime. 

He was a passionate advocate of his kids and grandkids in their education, sports, and life.

He enjoyed watching them play in the yard and on the field.  Moments that he shared with them all were priceless and will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. on Monday at the North Chapel with his son Gerald Clayton officiating.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 651 East 4th Street, Suite 200, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403 or www.cancerresearch.org.
