Douglas Grant Sawyer, 87, of Murfreesboro, formerly of Hixson, passed from this life on Thursday, September 10, 2020, after a long struggle with heart disease and cancer. 

 

Born on Aug. 15, 1933, in Nashville, and lived most of his live in Chattanooga. He was a Christian. He graduated from Hixson High School and retired from DuPont.

 

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Sawyer; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Charles Lee; grandchildren, David and wife Jeni Lee, Daniel Lee, and Shelby Lee; great-granddaughter, Willow Lee; sister, Avis Turner; brothers, Robert and wife Taziko Sawyer, and Bruce Sawyer.

 

His family was precious to him, especially his grandchildren and Willow. He enjoyed watching grandsons play football, and his granddaughter play soccer and was a great fan of UT. 

 

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

 

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

 

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the American Heart Association, or the Falling Water Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
