  • Wednesday, September 2, 2020

The annual Hiwassee Refuge Youth Dove Hunt will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12. This annual event is for young hunters between the ages 10 and 15.

Due to Covid19, this year’s hunt will not include lunch or the shooting clay range. Masks are not required, but suggested during sign-in and hunt post drawing. Participants must practice social distancing at the time of the sign-in and drawing. The location of the event will be at the Hiwassee Refuge in Birchwood, off Highway 60 between Birchwood and Dayton.

Hunting will begin at 3 p.m. and will include a safety orientation and a draw for hunting positions. The hunt will conclude at sunset.  At least one box of non-toxic shotgun shells will be provided.  Hunters are strongly encouraged to bring snacks and water.

Hunters must pre-register at gooutdoorstennesse.com.

Hunters are required to bring proof of hunter education certification, their hunting license and a migratory bird permit if between the ages of 13 and 15.   Lifetime Sportsman license holders and residents under 13 years of age do not need a migratory bird permit.

All hunting will be done from the staked location assigned prior to the hunt unless moved by a field safety officer.
