The Chattanooga Mocs and ETSU Bucs know each other really well. They may not have seen each other since 2019, but that doesn’t mean there’s any need for extended introductions. This is a game that’s circled from the moment ink hits paper setting the date in the first place.
It’s the Rail Rivalry.
A tradition unlike any other featuring the most prestigious railroad tie in sports.
The game itself is poised to live up to the hype. The Mocs, receiving top 25 votes, welcome the 10th-ranked Bucs at 1:30 p.m., Saturday in Finley Stadium. The good guys look to get back on track in the Southern Conference race, while ETSU is trying for a school record 7-0 start.
American Idol winner Ruben Studdard is performing the National Anthem. The special guest is from Birmingham and often wore “205” shirts during the competition so for this game, tickets in the chair-backed section 205 are $20, a 20 percent discount. Section 205 tickets are available by calling (423) 266-MOCS (6627). The game is sponsored by UTC’s Division of Diversity and Engagement.
It’s also Teacher Appreciation and Academic Day at the “rail yard”. All local educators receive a free ticket to the game when they show their ID. Tickets can be purchased in advance or honored on game day with discounted tickets for teacher immediate families attending with the educator.
Academic Day honors the great achievements by our student-athletics over the past year. The group is honored pre-game from each squad. For more on last year’s record-setting academic performance, go here, here or here.
