Jackie Burns recorded her sixth shutout of the season on Friday in Pensacola.
A pair of goals in the second half and another shutout by Lee's strong defense led the way to a 2-0 victory over rival West Florida on Friday evening and kept the Lady Flames unbeaten record in tack at 10-0 and 7-0 in Gulf South Conference play. The host Argonauts slipped to 7-2-1 and 3-2-1. Lee moves across the bay to Mobile, Alabama and will face Spring Hill College on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
Junior Ellie Crisler helped the Lady Flames break open a scoreless game with a goal in the 47th minute of the second half.
It was her third goal of the year. "We came out playing really fast in the second half and Ellie's goal helped us get off to a good start," said Coach Chris Hennessey after the win.
"This was a huge win for our team. Anytime you can come to West Florida and beat this team, it is something special. It was just a solid team victory from start to finish, especially on defense. Coming off a bye week, I was really pleased with the way our girls performed. They didn't miss a beat. We stayed focused in practice the entire week," the coach added in praising his squad.
The Lady Flames iced the victory in the 61st minute on senior Riley Henry's sixth goal of the season. The defensive battle saw Lee only fire 10 shots the entire evening and placed four on goal. Henry had two on target, Crisler one, and Katie Wilson the other. Lee's defense held the Argonauts to seven shots and three on target.
Lee keeper Jackie Burns recorded the victory and posted another clean sheet with two saves. West Florida used a pair of keepers. Kelsey Brann and Charline Favier each had a save. Lee was called for nine fouls and the Argonauts, eight. Each club had a pair of corner kicks.
