Eleanor Foy Bennett
Eleanor Foy Bennett, 87, of Chattanooga passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, November 7, 1933. Eleanor had been a member of Concord Baptist Church. When she moved to East Ridge she became a member of South Seminole Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery and at one time drove the church van. She was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Eleanor attended Rome Girls High School where she played in the drum and bugle corps. She attended Shorter College in Rome, GA where she was a member of the May Court and Shorter Players and was a graduate of IBM Technical College. She had worked for IBM for two years. After moving to Chattanooga, she managed the Hallmark Card department at Kingwood Pharmacy for 38 years before she retired.
She was a member of the Pairs and Spares and Shadow Casters square dance clubs where she was President and Treasurer. She managed the St. Jude auction for five years and was also a member of the Chattanooga Bridge Center.
She was preceded in death by her son, Duane Bennett, Jr. and her grandson, Randall Wayne Long.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Bascom and Rebecca Fairanna Rainey; one son, George Foy Bennett; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and her brother, Byron Foy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, with Rev. Ron Perry officiating, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
Private burial will be in West View Cemetery in Atlanta.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
