Barbara Ann Slaughter Pride, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 in the Hospice Care Center.  

She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess. She retired from Hamilton County Nursing Home after many years of service.  Barbara graduated from the Citizens Police Academy in the class of 2004. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Lewis Smith; sisters, Mildred Daisy Ingram, Marguerite Davis, Susie May Davis, Aaron Lewis McClendon, and Rebecca Tate; brothers, David Lewis and Walter C. Lewis; grandmother, Marie Jennings; aunt, Lillie Edwards; uncles, Milton Jennings and Julius Jennings; her daughter’s devoted father, Daniel Slaughter. 

Survivors include her daughter, Karen A. Slaughter of Woodstock, GA; grandchildren, Ashley Pinnix, Darius Pinnix, and Daniel “Shun” Pinnix; great-grandchildren, Desereck Issac and Zariyah Joyce; brother, Charles E. Smith, Jr. of Berkley, CA; sister, Bessie F. Lewis of Chattanooga; nieces, Brenda Edwards, Pamela Moore, Sharon Tate, and Gwen  Stringer; nephews, Kevin Moore and Keith Smith; special cousin, William Edwards; other relatives; special friends, Ann Rice, Ada Bass, Reverend Bernard Ingram, Mount Joy Church Members, Howard Pinnix, Todd Gordon, Mel Bryant, Vongoree Coonrod, Pearl Robinson, and Tammy Reese. 

Barbara will lie in state on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 1-3 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  There will be no service.
