Department Of Defense Recognizes 3 Erlanger Leaders For Supporting National Guard And Army Reserve

  • Tuesday, March 23, 2021
The Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program recognized Erlanger Health System's Lisa Crump, Katie Johnston and Mike McKeever with the Patriotic Employer Award for supporting employees in the Armed Forces.

The Patriotic Employer Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.

National Guard Sgt.
Aaron Brummett stated in his nomination of Ms. Crump, “Because of Lisa, I have not had to worry a second about my job, and she has handled all the paperwork involved with my military absence. She also calls and checks on myself and family during this time of pandemic and military absence."

Second Lt. Terry W. Ellis of the National Guard nominated Ms. Johnston saying, “Katie is the manager over the Level I Shock Trauma ICU at Erlanger Hospital. She has been very flexible with scheduling and truly cares about her employees in the Armed Forces. Not only has she worked around my mandatory IDT training, she has also been supportive for the three-month Basic Officer Leadership Course that I had to attend. Katie made it a priority to keep in touch with me while I attended training to keep me in the loop with work and to check on how my family and I were doing during the uncertain times of COVID-19. I truly appreciate all that she has done and continues to do.”

In the nomination for Mr. McKeever, National Guard Sgt. FC Kenny Botts praised his flexibility, ...when our orders have come in late. Also McKeever dealt with the short notification when we were called up.”

"Erlanger Health System is a proud supporter and employer of our men and women in the Armed Forces," officials said. "Support such as this is important to each service member when they are deployed." Erlanger currently employees over 220 self-identified veterans, active duty and reserve members of the Armed Forces.
