Chattanooga's Rodriguez Is SoCon Tennis Player Of The Week

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore Tomas Rodriguez is the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 1-7, the league office announced Monday. Rodriguez is the first Moc to be awarded player of the week twice in a season and the first to earn multiple player of the week honors in a career.

 

Rodriguez went 2-0 at No.

1 singles and 1-0 at No. 1 doubles as he led the Mocs to a pair of wins over UAB (7-0) and UNC Asheville (4-3).  In singles play, the native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, won both of his matches in straight sets. He began the week with a 6-2, 6-2 win over UAB’s Roman Postolka on March 5 before earning a 6-2, 6-0 win over UNC Asheville’s Oli Nolan two days later.

 

In doubles play, Rodriguez and teammate Peyton Gatti won 7-5 over UNC Asheville’s top duo. Chattanooga (2-5) plays at Austin Peay on Tuesday, March 9, and at The Citadel on Sunday, March 14, in the Mocs’ conference opener.
