Hixson native Jessica Combs was recently honored by the Austin Peay Alumni Association in an Alumni Spotlight article.

Upon her graduation in 2016, Combs became a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) as a teaching pro and club professional. In 2019 APSU athletic director Gerald Harrison announced Combs would be returning to the school as its sixth head women’s golf coach

Combs was a standout golfer at Soddy Daisy High School and then attended Austin Peay, where she played for former head coach Sara Robson.

As a freshman, Combs had seven Top-20 finishes, as well as making the Top-10 three times. She finished her freshman campaign with a team best 78.8 stroke average and was the Govs low scorer in seven of the team’s ten tournaments that season.

The eleventh hole of the OVC tournament was the scene of her first collegiate hole-in-one where she finished ninth in her first conference championship.

Combs led APSU in scoring each of her four years and was named All-OVS three times. She is just one of three Governors to have that distinction. Her impressive 76.57 average as a senior currently ranks her fourth in the Govs’ record books.
