UTC Beach Volleyball Sweeps Jacksonville State, Wins Fifth-Straight

The Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball program continued its monumental start to the inaugural Ohio Valley Conference season after securing a doubleheader sweep over Jacksonville State (3-2, 4-1) on a sunny Thursday afternoon inside the UTC Sports Complex.
 
Following the pair of victories, Chattanooga has now won its last five OVC matchups to improve to 5-1 in the league standings and 6-7 overall.
Jacksonville State falls to 1-5 both overall and in the OVC.

 
"It's hard to explain how proud I am of the girls fight and how we are not only competing at a high level, but we are building this program the right way," said head coach Darin Van Horn.
 
"As a program we care about loving each other, fighting for one another, and always having each other's backs. The support they show for one another is inspiring."
 
The No. 1 pairing of Baylee Young and Jordan Krege continued their roll and have now won their last 10 matchups behind a pair of come-from-behind 2-1 victories of JSU's Kailey Milton and Kaylee Quigley.
 
The duo dropped the opening set in each of the matches before rallying in the deciding third set in thrilling fashion. Young and Krege battled their way to a 17-15 victory in the third set in match one which clinched the victory for the Mocs.
 
In the No. 2 pair, Gylian Finch and Bailey Steger extended their winning streak as a duo to five matches following an undefeated day with two, 2-0 sweep.s Finch and Steger rolled in the first match, winning 21-9 and 21-13, before fighting off a spiriting comeback effort in the second match, 21-17 and 21-18.
 
Victoria Cerino and Paige Gallentine played as the No. 3 pair for the Mocs and earned a match-clinching victory in the nightcap of the doubleheader in a wild 2-1 (21-15, 12-21, 15-4) decision over Peyton Pauze and Macie Garrison. The UTC pair split the day after falling 2-0 in the first match.
Hanley Lomax and Madelina Myers-Osband dropped both matchups in the No. 4 slot to Erin Carmichael and Lena Kindermann. The pair fell 2-1 in the first match of the day before suffering a 2-0 defeat in the second.
 
It was a clean two-match sweep for Chattanooga's No. 5 pairing of Abby Ashway and Makenzie Jordan. The pairing cruised to a pair of 2-0 wins, earning 21-17 and 21-8 decisions in the first match, and 21-13 and 21-8 tallies in the finale.
 
UP NEXT
Chattanooga (6-7, 5-1 SoCon) heads to Richmond, Ky., this weekend for the final "OVC Weekend" hosted by Eastern Kentucky. The Mocs will face UT Martin, Morehead State, Austin Peay and EKU over Saturday and Sunday with the ability to claim the OVC regular season title.
