World War II Veteran Retired From American General Insurance After 42 Years

Garnett Walker, 94, of Soddy Daisy, passed away peacefully at home with family on April 3, 2021.

 

Garnett was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was a longtime and faithful member of Soddy Daisy First Baptist church. He retired from American General Insurance after 42 years. He was a 70 year member of the Daisy Masonic Lodge #706.

 

He served on the Soddy Daisy Planning Commission for 26 years. He was on the Red Bank/Soddy Daisy Charitable Foundation for a number of years. He was also an American Legion member.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Laura Walker; his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Walker; son, Rick Walker; brother, Wallace Walker; sisters, Helen Hixson and Wanda Holloway.

 

He is survived by his children, Sandra (Cliff) Cress of Kennesaw, Ga.; Barry (Sharon) Walker of Gallatin, TN; Randy (Penny) Walker of Soddy-Daisy; sister, Barbara Bates of Birmingham, Al.; daughter-in-law, Mary Wyrick of Hixson, Tn. and sister-in-law, Betty Johnston; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be at Soddy Daisy First Baptist Church from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, with services immediately following. Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park, Red Bank.

 

Sean Walker, Ryan Cress, Dustin Walker, Jordan Walker, Nick Walker and Alex Walker will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Soddy-Daisy Food Bank.
