U.S. Army Veteran Held Long Career With South Pittsburg Fire Department

Stanley D. Chance, 69, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, at Memorial Hospital.

Stanley was preceded in death by his father, Howard O. Chance, Sr., and his grandparents, Earl and Bertie Mae Case, and Joseph and Josie Chance.

He was dedicated to his faith, country, community and his family.  Stanley served in the United States Army National Guard 12A10 – Combat Engineer, Lions Club, VFW Post 6362, and the fire department of the City of South Pittsburg for nearly 20 years, and a lifelong fan of Pirate football and the Alabama Crimson Tide.  He was passionate about the fire service and its impact on his community.  He served as Engineer, Captain, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, and Assistant Chief Retired.  Those left to answer the call are the men and women of the Fire Department of the City of South Pittsburg, and its command.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 50 years, Diana, his daughter, Melissa (Ron) Tucker, son, Joshua (Brooke) Chance of South Pittsburg, grandsons; Tyler (Beverly) McLemore, of Section, AL., and Aibram Pierce Chance, of South Pittsburg.  He is also survived by his brother Howard O. Chance, Jr. (Kathleen) and his mother Bertie Mae Chance of South Pittsburg and several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as career-long friends Jody Rollins, Freddie Cook, and Harold Knoll.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10, at 2 p.m. (CST) in the chapel of Rogers Funeral Home of South Pittsburg with Reverend Brad Bridgman officiating.

Interment will follow at Cumberland View Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 8, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, April 9, from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-2 p.m. prior to the chapel service at Rogers Funeral Home of South Pittsburg.

Pallbearers will be the Fire Honor Guard.
