Lorene L. Bowman, 83, of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021, in a local hospital.

 

Lorene spent most all of her life in the North Georgia area and was of the Church of Christ faith. She attended school in the Morganton, Ga., area then earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Chattanooga State College.  Lorene worked for Hutcheson Medical Center, Parkridge Medical Center, NHC of Chattanooga, and Lifecare of Chattanooga during her nursing career. In her free time Lorene enjoyed gardening, traveling, flowers, and was considered an excellent cook. She was a strong, hard working woman, whose feisty and innovative personality is much admired by her friends and family. Lorene made “the best homemade biscuits, cornbread, banana nut bread, and peanut butter pie you’ve ever eaten.” She is very loved and will be greatly missed.

 

Lorene is preceded in death by her first husband, James Free; son, Glenn Stinnett; brothers, Olen and Hobart Aaron; infant sister, Flossie Mae Aaron; and parents, Carl and Hester Aaron.

 

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Vollie Bowman, Jr.; children: Janet L. Beach (Wayne Westbury), Jimmy D. Free, Linda L. Free, and Joan E. Free (Rick Prator); grandchildren: James, Josh, Michelle, Shawn, and Kevin; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Reese Faucett officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakewood Memory Gardens South.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 3-8 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
