Betty Faye (Davis) Kendrick
Betty Faye (Davis) Kendrick of Rock Spring, Georgia, peacefully received her Crown of Life and heavenly reward, taking hold of the hand of God, her Father and King, on Tuesday evening, July 13, 2021. She was at her home, surrounded by her children. Her life was one of service not just to God, but to her family and others who needed her.
Betty, a three-pound preemie, was born to Humphrey Odis (Ode to some) and Sarah Lee (Ferguson) Davis, on Sand Mountain, in Albertville, Al. She grew into an intelligent, sweet, kind and caring young woman who always had a smile, emphasized by deep dimples on each side.
She learned early on to serve others. As a child, she took care of her mother who had serious health issues, and she also took care of her daddy and brother. That caring disposition stayed with her through life. She was a loving and devoted wife, doting on her husband until the day he passed from this earth. She raised her three children with love and discipline, reading Bible stories to them from the time they were born. Later in life, she helped her brother and his family care for their mother. She also helped care for her mother and father-in-law as they grew older. She adored her grandchildren and helped take care of her first great-granddaughter and first great-grandson in Rock Spring. Her baby brother was truly “hers.” He was extremely special to her. She loved and thought about her nieces and nephews, trying to remember to send them birthday cards every year until the last four or five of her life.
Her life as a minister’s wife was one of service to the Church, teaching children’s classes from the time she was a young adult until she was in her mid-70’s. She, was a member of LaFayette Church of Christ for the last 18 years of her life and along with her husband, worked in preparing and delivering meals from LaFayette Church of Christ to those in need.
She was an accomplished seamstress and made all of her and her daughter’s clothing as she raised them. She was a brilliant gardener, freezing and canning vegetables and tenderly tending to her flowers and plants. She was hardly ever idle, always finding something to do or something which needed to be done. She was also a wonderful cook, with each child and grandchild having their individual favorite “MawMaw” dish.
Above all else, she was and is a Daughter of The King! She read her bible from start to finish, every year. Her knowledge of Bible was astonishing!
God immensely blessed we who are her family by making us hers. She is loved. She is missed. She is our example and may we all strive to be like her, who was like Christ.
She is whole again! She is experiencing joy and beauty beyond all our imagination! Praise God for her life and praise Him for His faithfulness to her with His promises!
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Kendrick; and baby boy, Kendrick.
She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Kendrick (Randy Fowler), and Beverly Kendrick (Mack) Roberts; son, Tony (Susan Wade) Kendrick; grandchildren, Rebecca Fowler (Scott) Burton, Joshua Kendrick, Jonathan (Caley) Fowler, Joshua (Corey) Roberts, Caleb (Leslie) Kendrick, Jake (Shelby) Roberts, and Jarrod Roberts; great grandchildren, Abby Kendrick, Kaden Kendrick, Emersyn Roberts, Ryder Roberts, Cece Fowler, Elliott Roberts, Lynleigh Roberts, Lucy Fowler, and Hayes Burton; and brother, Max (Carolyn “Dot”) Davis.
