Willie Newson
Willie Newson
A beloved life ended on Thursday, July 22, 2021, when the Lord reclaimed the soul of Mr. Willie Newson. His kind disposition, strong family values, exceptional work ethics, and love for gardening and fishing, will continue in the hearts of his family and all those he touched.

Mr. Willie Newson was born November 22, 1926, in Whitesburg, Georgia to the late John and Arsula Newson.

Mr. Newson often shared stories of his time growing up. He talked about his stubborn mule, working on the farm, and never being able to out-pick his sister, Emma Pearl Hines, at cotton.. He always had to put rocks in the bottom of his bag to help create his 50 lbs, while Emma’s 50 lb bag was all cotton.

Mr. Newson wore many hats as a provider for his family. He worked as a chef at the Patton Hotel. He also worked at Lockheed, and U.S. Pipe where he retired after 34 years in 1987.

Mr. Newson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Mrs. Ivola Newson; his parents, John and Arsula Newson; sisters, Mattie L. Jordan and Emma Pearl Hines.

Mr. Newson is survived by his 3 daughters, Willie Rosezetta (Preston) Price, Susie A. (Gary) Mingo, and Sylvia A. Newson; 3 sons, Willie C. Newson, Johnny R. Newson, and Timothy C. (Sharon) Newson, all of Chattanooga; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place at noon on Monday, Aug. 2, in the chapel.

Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
