Retired SSG, Maxie “Mac” Altman, 85, of Rossville passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at his home with his family by his side. 

 

Mr. Altman and his family moved to the North Georgia area in 1974.  Mr. Altman retired in 1974 from the United States Army serving in the 82 Airborne during Vietnam receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and numerous other commendations. He also served in the Dominican Republic and Germany.  After his retirement in the Military, Mr. Altman had a 20-year career at Dan Rivers Crystal Springs where he retired in 2010.  Mr. Altman was member of the VFW Post 3679.  He loved his family dearly, enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, Andy Griffith, and the Three Stooges, and he loved his dog, Lady.

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Marty Altman; two grandsons, Brandon Creswell and Chad Anthony Creswell; four brothers; and three sisters.

 

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Thelma Altman; daughter, Katherine Annette Altman; three sons, Michael (Pam) Creswell, Robert (Anna) Creswell, and Charles Creswell; grandson, Maxie Altman, II (Katherine); granddaughter, Candace Simpson; three great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 11:30 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Jim Bennett officiating.

 

Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

 

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville.
