Bristol Motor Speedway 50th Anniversary Rifle Featured By Compass Auction On Oct. 9 At Brushy Mountain

Friday, September 24, 2021

A special "Thunder Valley" rifle will be featured at an auction heId by Compass Auction of Chattanooga on Oct. 9.

Compass officials said, "Imagine a rainy day in March near the border between Tennessee and Virginia. The air is cool, the wind is softly blowing, and the sounds of revving engines echo throughout Thunder Valley, one of the biggest sports arenas in the world.

"Thunder Valley - AKA Bristol Motor Speedway - is the only speedway in Tennessee that hosts NASCAR Cup Series races. It’s also the third-nearest to Chattanooga, behind the Talladega Superspeedway and the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

"Known as 'The World's Fastest Half-Mile', Bristol Motor Speedway is one of NASCAR's loudest raceways.  The track opened in 1961, before its acquisition by Speedway Motorsports Inc. in 1996.
Bristol Motor Speedway celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011, and was the site for the 4th and 24th title races in that year's NASCAR Spring Cup Series.

"The 4th title race that season was the 2011 Jeff Byrd 500, in memory of the speedway’s longtime president and general manager Jeff Byrd. This marked the first time since 1991 that the race didn't keep its usual name of The Food City 500.

"Kyle Busch, Number 18, was the winner of the Anniversary race, making it his 20th career victory. He would later win three other races in the series, finishing in 12th place.

"As part of the promotion for Thunder Valley’s 50th Anniversary, 100 commemorative, limited-edition gold-plated rifles were made and sold during the Jeff Byrd 500.

"One of these special rifles - a Rossi Model 92 .45 Colt - will be featured in Pistols at the Prison, a two-day gun show presented by Compass at Brushy Mountain State Pen in Petros, Tennessee.
Pistols at the Prison will get started on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. ET. A live firearm auction will begin to close the next day at 6 p.m. at the event space."
