McKamey Animal Center Takes Part In Empty The Shelters

  • Saturday, October 1, 2022

Bissell Pet Foundation is doing its part to take homeless pets from kennels to couches by sponsoring reduced adoption fees of $50 or less from Oct. 1-8. The longest-ever National “Empty the Shelters” event will be hosted in more than 280 shelters in 42 states, including McKamey Animal Center.

McKamey Animal Center will participate Oct. 1-8, offering fee-waived adoptions for adult and senior dogs and cats. McKamey Animal Center currently has more than 120 animals looking for dedicated and loving homes. Interested adopters do not need an appointment to visit the MAC Adoptions Center, or to adopt. All adoptions will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. All interested adopters can find more details online at www.mckameyanimalcenter.org.

Bissell's Empty the Shelter adoption events have helped to adopt out hundreds of animals from McKamey Animal Center into the local Chattanooga community throughout the last year.

"We are just so grateful for all of the support Bissell Pet Foundation has offered MAC this year," said Director of Advancement, Lauren Mann, "It's been a tough year, and as we continue to see more and more animals coming through our doors needing critical, life-saving help, having a partner like Bissell has been so wonderful and vital for our adoptions."

"It has been a challenging year for our nation's animal shelters," said Cathy Bissell, founder of Bissell Pet Foundation. "The devastating increase in owner surrenders has left thousands of socialized, house-trained and leash-trained pets desperate to find a home. Our fall Empty the Shelters will support the adoption of thousands of pets across the country, helping shelters in this critical time. Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates space to give another pet a chance."

Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event is the largest funded adoption event in the country. With a goal of encouraging more families to choose adoption, this lifesaving effort has helped nearly 118,000 pets find loving homes since 2016. Empty the Shelters is Bissell Pet Foundation’s largest program, partnering with a total of 541 animal welfare organizations in 47 states and Canada to reduce adoption fees.

Adoption is a lifetime commitment. Bissell Pet Foundation and McKamey Animal Center urge families to do their research about the pet they are interested in adopting, as well as adoption requirements.
