Lee Women Win 7-0 At Shorter

  • Sunday, October 2, 2022
The Lee University women’s soccer team handily defeated Shorter University 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win was the 25th for the Lady Flames over Shorter as Lee has never lost to Shorter in program history.

Jordan Blair opened the scoring in the 27nd minute taking a long pass from Katie Wilson a slotted it home. It was the first goal of the season for Blair.

Just a couple of minutes later, in the 31st minute, Grace Berry had an incredible individual effort as scored the second goal of the contest.
Kassidy Kellett scored the third goal of the first half after getting a cross from Blair in the 38th minute. Kellett also scored her first goal of the season.

Kellett added to her total in the second half. In the 54th minute she blasted a shot into the back of the net on a pass from Ellie Crisler. The fifth goal of the game came in the 65th minute when Berry scored her second goal of the game on a pass from Sage Sammeli.

The 75th minute had Alexis Hale score her first goal of the season after Tatum Miller caught the Shorter goalkeeper out of position and pass it to a wide open Hale. Just two minutes later, in the 77th minute, Addison Smith stole a Shorter pass and beat the goalie one-on-one to make it a seven goal lead.

Head Coach Chris Hennessey was happy with the result. “I was happy with our focus and play today. After a long break between games it can sometimes be hard to get going again. We now know we have a tough weekend to prepare for so our focus will be getting ready for that.”

The Lady Flames did not allow Shorter to take a shot as Mollie Wheeler and Haleigh Holland both played a half in goal and did not face any challenge. Lee had over 20 shots with over ten shots on target.

The Lady Flames have not allowed Shorter to score on them since a 7-1 victory in 2017. This was the largest margin of victory over the Lady Hawks since moving to the NCAA. Lee has outscored Shorter 44-2 in the last ten games.

The Lady Flames will return home and take on West Florida on Friday, October 7 at 5 PM at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
