Lee Theatre will continue its season with “Antigone” by Sophocles on Nov. 4-5 and 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Buzz Oates Blackbox Theater.

“This has been an exciting and challenging production,” said Dr. Christine Williams, theatre professor and chair of the Communication Arts Department. “Anytime you bring a classical play to the stage, there is an extra level of attention needed in order to connect the story with the audience.  I have incredibly gifted production team members helping to bring this classical Greek story to our modern audiences.”

The production sets the classical Greek play “Antigone” a few decades into the future.  The show, directed by Dr. Williams, features a futuristic design highlighting the timelessness of this 2500-year-old tale. At the core of the play is the conflict between following the laws of the state and the laws of personal faith shown in the epic battle of wills between Queen Creusa and her niece Antigone.

“We have talented student actors who bring this show to life, and I am excited for the audience to experience the production,” said Dr. Williams.

Online ticket sales are available now on Eventbrite.com or at the Lee Theatre Box Office, located in the Communication Arts Building. The box office will be open from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday during the week of the shows and one hour prior to each performance.
