Brian Thomas Askew
Brian Thomas Askew went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the age of 46.
Born on Jan. 3, 1979, he wasn’t just the life of the party, he was the DJ, the B=bouncer and the guy who spiked the punch. He cracked jokes like a stand-up comic which wasn’t just for laughs, it was his secret weapon in sales which led to his success. People didn’t just buy what he was selling, they bought into him. Let’s be honest, by the time he finished cracking you up, the sale was completed, and he had made a friend for life. Brian was obsessed with the Georgia Bulldogs which he passed on genetically to his son Braxton. Saturdays were off limits unless you were wearing red and black, and he had more Georgia gear than most official team stores.
He is survived by his loving wife, Erin Askew, his son, Braxton Reed Askew and stepson, Lachlan McNabb. He is also survived by his mother, Pamela Trew Turley (Steve), his half-brother, Gary Keck (Cindy), his maternal grandmother, Irma Trew, his uncle, Larry Trew (Tina), his aunt, Janet Overman (Wayne), his aunt, Ann-Elizabeth Ownby (Dennis), and his cousins, Colton Trew, Jason Campbell, Terri Ownby Sanders, and Denny Ownby.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Askew, his maternal grandfather, John Trew, his paternal, grandfather William Askew and paternal grandmother, Virginia Askew. He was also preceded in death by his cousins, Kyle Trew and Kendra Ownby, and late half-brother, Eddie Keck.
Erin was the calm voice of reason in their relationship, and Brian was the reason calm voices exist. Yet somehow their relationship still worked. Once they met, it wasn’t just about Erin and Brian, their boys clicked like they had been siblings forever. It didn’t take long before what started as two families turned into one that was loud, loving and perfectly mismatched. Brian had a presence that filled the room. Not because he tried, it was simply who he was. There was a natural strength and kindness in him that made people stop, listen, and feel seen. He did not have to say much. Just being there was enough.
In 2023 Brian had a tragic car accident that changed his life forever. We witnessed his suffering every day, knowing this day would come, even though you are never actually prepared when it does. This experience was very humbling for him, but it ultimately saved his life for eternity. He prayed for healing even if it meant he could just move his arms again. The Lord is merciful, and he is now healed, walking the streets of heaven and probably trying to tell Jesus that the pictures are not high enough and the furniture is crooked.
A celebration of Brian’s life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, at Heritage Funeral Home on Battlefield Parkway. The family will receive friends from 1-3:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be private.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Steve Turley, Colton Trew, Kelton Rowe, Shane Stringer, Brant Spratlin, Brad Grisham, Brian Johnson and Jason Wagoner.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to an account set up at Truist Bank for the educational benefit of his children. Additional information will be provided by the family.
