For just more than a decade, Skyuka Hall School has been meeting the challenge of providing a high-quality education to students who learn differently. That success is in no small part due to the leadership of President and Head of School, Dr. Ronald (Josh) Yother. Dr. Yother’s dedication, methodology, and results have now caught the attention of a prominent national organization, Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD).
CHADD was created in 1987 to give support to parents of children with ADHD. From one parent support group in Florida, CHADD is now a nationally recognized source of information and advocacy for the estimated nine percent of children and four percent of adults with ADHD. The small national staff works to provide support, education, and encouragement to parents, educators, and professionals through smaller CHADD chapters. The board of directors is made up of 16 professionals from the medical, legal, academic, and other fields who work to set policy and oversee the organization’s mission: To empower people affected by ADHD by providing evidence-based information; supporting individuals, their families, and professionals who assist them throughout their journeys; and advocating for equity, inclusion, and universal rights.
Dr. Yother has been appointed to the CHADD board of directors, as the organization has seen great value in his journey. From the depths of the Amazon Basin to the streets of Chattanooga, Dr. Yother has relentlessly pursued the mission of delivering vital educational and financial resources to families and students facing inadequate support from schools and communities due to their learning and attention challenges. Himself diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, Dr. Yother has overcome the difficulties of getting an education from a one-size-fits-all system to graduate from Tennessee Wesleyan University, Gonzaga University, and the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
“I’m absolutely elated to embark on this journey with CHADD’s National Board of Directors,” says Yother. “This organization stands at the forefront of transforming the lives of countless individuals dealing with ADHD nationwide.” Dr. Yother is a husband of 25 years to his wife, Jodi, and devoted father to their three children, Lexi, Maddi, and Peyton. His life’s work is a testament to his profound passion for education, inclusivity, and advocacy, and he looks forward to helping CHADD continue to make a lasting impact in the lives of families across the country. “The opportunity to engage in such meaningful work alongside the passionate and committed team fills me with pride and excitement,” said Dr. Yother. “Together, we’ll navigate the complexities of the organization’s mission, and just like at Skyuka Hall, strive to make a palpable difference in the lives of those we serve.”
