Due Your Due Diligence And Come Up With An Answer

  • Tuesday, August 5, 2025

Senior citizens and other neighbors in our Hamilton County community who live on a fixed income ought to be able to stay in their homes instead of being priced out.

I respectfully ask County Mayor Wamp and our 11 county commissioners to collaborate and do their due diligence in reviewing the options to come up with an answer – not an overall freeze, but an option focused on those of us who need property tax relief.

The commissioners and County Mayor Wamp can consult with our county tax assessor, county attorney, and other relevant county staff, as well as with the state’s tax department. Can they examine alternatives such as the value of a tax exemption, a tax freeze or a tax credit? Can they check out what other comparable municipalities in Tennessee are doing? What are some other ways for the commissioners and the mayor to successfully address this critical issue?

County Mayor Wamp and Commissioners Gene-O Shipley, Chip Baker, Ken Smith, Warren Mackey, Greg Beck, David Sharpe, Lee Helton, Mike Chauncey, Steve Highlander, Jeff Eversole, and Joe Graham, your constituents are counting on you to meet this challenge.
