Eugene Gustav Jung
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugene Gustav Jung, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, who left us peacefully, surrounded by his family on August 4, 2025.
Gene was a man whose love for his family was at the center of everything that he did. He was known for his warm smile, his quick wit and the kind of laugh that could fill a room and lift the spirits of everyone around him. Whether it was sharing a joke at family movie night or swapping stories with fellow campers at a national park, Gene had a gift for making people feel at home. As a dad, he found immense joy in spending time laughing and playing with his two sons, Gene and Nick.
An avid camper, Gene found joy and peace in the great outdoors. Some of his most cherished memories were made under the stars with his wife, Sandy, at the beach, and all across the country throughout the national parks. These adventures were not just hobbies, but where he felt the most alive and connected to the world. This trip returned him to his youth, when a similar journey with his mother, father and sisters inspired him to recreate the adventure.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Smith Jung; his children, Eugene Adam (Kathryn) Jung and Nicholas Anthony Jung; two step sons, Josh (Jennifer) Aslinger and Travis (Lauren) Dunn; three beloved grandchildren, Harlyn Cate Jung, August Henry Jung and Jack Everett Jung; four loving sisters, Patricia Malia (Jack) Miller, Christine (Robert) Rodman, Marlene (Ron) Biava and Heidi Nitka. Though he has left this world, the laughter, love and memories that he gave us will live on in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Park Association, or that you honor his memory by sharing a laugh with someone you love – preferably around a campfire.
A visitation for Gene will be held on Monday, Aug. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home – North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343. A Celebration of Life Service will follow starting at 7 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Crimm officiating.
