Fire Academy 2025
A class of 32 cadets made it through the six-month fire academy to become the newest members of the Chattanooga Fire Department. A graduation ceremony will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bayside Baptist Church.
The cadets successfully completed Emergency Medical Technician training and learned about all of the different aspects of the fire service from other highly skilled, veteran firefighters. The Training Division and other CFD personnel taught them about fire department operations, fire attack, fire growth and development, fire suppression, and search and rescue techniques.
They’ve also mastered a number of skills like hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication, rope rescues, ventilation, and survival tactics- whether they have to save a fellow downed firefighter or save themselves from a fire should they ever become trapped, disoriented or separated from their crew.
This class is a diverse group, composed of men and women eager to serve the citizens of Chattanooga and respond to emergencies.
This was the CFD’s first fire academy to utilize the new training tower. With its many different state-of-the-art features, it offered instructors a variety of scenarios to provide the cadets with the best learning opportunities. It created conditions similar to real situations, including live burns, smoke-filled rooms with zero visibility and multiple floors for victim rescues.
