Families in Chattanooga gathered for Wellpoint Tennessee’s “Back to School Bash,” in partnership with community-based organizations, an event that provided students with backpacks and other school supplies for a successful school year. On Saturday, hundreds of individuals from the community showed up to the back-to-school event in Chattanooga to receive school supplies for the upcoming school year.

During the event, Wellpoint Tennessee and its partners provided more than 300 backpacks and school supplies, helping to ease financial stress for local families.
Local businesses and community-based organizations also donated clothing and shoes to benefit the Hamiliton County School District’s “Teacher’s Closet.” Wellpoint Tennessee representatives, churches and mental health providers offered health screenings, mental health support, entertainment and food for attendees.

“New school supplies and resources can make a real difference for children heading back to school,” said Natalie Cooper, president of Wellpoint Tennessee. “Events like the ‘Back to School Bash’ are about standing alongside families in Chattanooga providing them with what they need and showing them that we are here to support their overall well-being.”

Officials said, "As a leading managed care organization in the state, Wellpoint Tennessee is committed to improving not only the physical health of residents but also the behavioral and social factors that affect their lives. Through events like 'Back to School Bash,' Wellpoint Tennessee works to support individuals and families by addressing real-world barriers to health, such as housing, transportation, food insecurity and access to care."

“This event reflects our commitment to supporting local communities across Tennessee,” Ms. Cooper added. “We want every family in Chattanooga to know that we’re here to provide support when they need it, and we’re a partner they can count on.”

Wellpoint Tennessee will continue hosting back-to-school events and other community-focused programs throughout the summer across East, Middle and West Tennessee. These events are designed to strengthen connections, empower families and eliminate barriers to living healthier lives, officials said.
