Roy James Tanner
Roy James Tanner, 90, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord August 3, 2025.
He served the Lord for over 70 years and was a member of the Sale Creek Church of God where he served as head usher. He worked at Chattanooga Glass Company for 30 years and the Hamilton County Tag & Title Office for seven years and part-time at Saint-Gobain NorPro for 38 years. Roy was an avid collector of Coca Cola memorabilia.
He was known as “Super Grandpa” and “Papaw Roy” and he loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His parents, Willian and Dorothy Tanner and his brother Delwin “Red” Tanner preceded him in death.
Roy was survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Margaret Carlisle Tanner; their children, Kathy Wilson, James Kenneth (Kandace) Tanner, Sharon (Billy) Gallahar and Debbie (Mike) Howard; grandchildren, Mandi Hoover, Tiffany Silvers, Jennifer Crow, Machana Coyne, Jeremy Brooks, Chiesa Smith, Heather Tanner, Danielle Matthews, Trey Howard, Katie Hill along with seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Sale Creek Church of God with Bishop Terry Bolton and Bishop Caleb Bolton presiding. His body will lie in state at the church from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Brooks, Darryl Crow, Byron Hill, Jacob Matthews, Quinton Hoover, Jayden Coyne and Eric Coyne.
