Eula Mae Johnson Petty, 89, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the local hospital.
Born on Jan. 18, 1936, in Whitfield County, Ga., Eula Mae was the beloved daughter of the late Walter F. and Sara Velentine “Tine” Hammontree Gulledge. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Woodrow Burl Johnson and Robert Petty; her sons, Johnny Johnson and Robert Johnson; sisters, Lucille Manis, Alma Jean Sloan, and Irene Brackett; brothers, Austin Gulledge, Charlie Gulledge, Frank Gulledge, Fred Gulledge, Willard Gulledge, and Cheslee Gulledge.
Eula Mae was a beautician by trade and proudly owned and operated her own shop for many years. She was a faithful member of Life Gate Church and was known by all as a true “people person.” Eula Mae never met a stranger — she loved to talk, laugh, and share stories with everyone she met. She delighted in visiting friends, caring for family, and creating lasting connections wherever she went. With her impeccable style and grace, she was always dressed as if she had just stepped out of a fashion magazine.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She cherished her large, loving extended family. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
She is survived by her sons, Bobby Shahan of San Diego, CA, and Ricky Johnson of Dalton, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Jean and Gary Brackett of Ringgold, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Jo and Don Palmer of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Shelby Johnson, Dyess Johnson, Chelsea (Ray) Oliver, Russel Johnson, Tresia (Larry) Ockey, David (Renee) Brackett, Brian (Tabitha) Brackett, and Melinda (Steve) Hoyt; Several great-grandchildren and great great grand-children and several nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Eula Mae Johnson Petty will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Joe Sellers officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Grove Level Community Cemetery with her family and close friends honored to serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, and again on Friday, after 9 a.m. until the service hour.
