Robert Gregg Cunnyngham, 78, of Ringgold, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Born on May 19, 1947, in Chattanooga, to the late Wiley and Freida Cunnyngham, Gregg was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, gifted athlete, and respected businessman. He was known for his quick wit, impeccable sense of style, and ability to connect with everyone he met.

Gregg was a standout submarine pitcher at Brainerd High School and then at Middle Tennessee State University from 1966 to 1968. He earned All-Conference honors in 1967 and 1968, was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in 1968, and helped lead MTSU to its first-ever OVC baseball championship. That year, he went 9-0 with a 1.55 ERA. He later played professionally for the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Indians.

Following his baseball career, Gregg owned a successful men’s clothing business in Chattanooga, where he styled countless men across the region and built lasting relationships with his clients. After selling his business, he was a manager at Olan Mills, where his charisma and professional presence made him a valued leader.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Freida Cunnyngham, and his brother, John Howard Cunnyngham.

Gregg is survived by his loving wife, Carol Cunnyngham; children Charlie Cunnyngham, Amy Miller Feehery (Kelly Alexander), and Ashley Johnson (Drew); stepchildren Kelley Smith and Phillip Smith; grandchildren Larkin Johnson, Coulter Feehery, Miller Johnson, Riggs Johnson, Ellis Johnson, and Mathew Smith (Denise); and his brother, Scott Cunnyngham (Michelle) and sister-in-law, Paula Cunningham.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 1-4 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 443 Boynton Drive, Ringgold. A funeral service will follow on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. at the same location.
