He was the husband to Mrs. Carlene Joyce Smith Smyly.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1940, in Ruffin, SC, and was the son of the late Lee Winston Smyly and Lula Carroll Smyly. Mongin was a jack of all trades and master of them all. In addition to his wife Carlene, he is survived by his children, daughters: Tina S. (Conrad) Smith, Greenpond, SC, Joy S. (Brian) Preveaux, Mullins, SC, and son: Shane B. Smyly, Round O, SC., his grandchildren: C. Joseph Smith, III, Greenpond, SC, Sherrie L. Smyly, Jacksonville, FL, Erin C. Preveaux, Cottageville, SC and Matthew C. Preveaux, Sarasota, FL., Great Grandchildren: Whitne Vogt and Brantley Vogt, Jacksonville, FL., A niece:  Gina G. (Bob) Reardon, Tega Cay, SC, whom he considered as a bonus daughter and several nieces and nephews, Stepchildren, which he also considered his bonus son and daughter: Michelle E. Lucas, Brian Nichols, Stepchildren grandchildren: Britanny Nichols, Alyssa Nichols, and Step Great Grandchildren: Brooklynn Skye Nichols.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
